Lough Ree Distillery

Family Distillery from Ireland

Lough Ree Distillery sits on the banks of the River Shannon in Lanesborough, County Longford, where the Clancy family distil whiskey and gin in genuinely small batches. Every release is made, matured and bottled on site, from the peated pot still experiments to the botanical gins that put the distillery on the map. It is a portfolio built slowly, by people who live beside the water their spirits are named after.

  • Small-batch Irish tradition
  • Broad whiskey & gin portfolio
  • Consistent quality & awards

Lough Ree Awards

Irish Whiskey Awards 2023 — Gold

Recognised for a pot still character that balances orchard fruit with a soft Shannon-water finish, judged blind against the full Irish field.

London Spirits Competition 2022 — Silver

Scored on quality, value and packaging together, the Silver medal marks a spirit that earns its place on both the back bar and the shelf.

IWSC 2022 — Bronze

The International Wine & Spirit Competition commended the distillery for technical precision and a clean, well-integrated botanical profile.

Blas na hÉireann 2021 — Finalist

Ireland’s national food and drink awards placed the distillery among the country’s best small producers for taste and provenance.

World Gin Awards 2021 — Country Winner

Named a national category winner for a contemporary gin whose citrus lift and juniper backbone hold up straight or long.

Bart’s Blended Whiskey

Bart’s is the distillery’s everyday blend, named for a Clancy forebear and built for the way Irish whiskey is actually drunk. Grain whiskey gives it an easy, honeyed body; a generous measure of malt carries orchard fruit and a little toasted cereal through the finish. It is soft enough to pour neat after work and robust enough to hold its own in a highball, which is exactly why it moves so quickly through trade accounts. Bottled in small batches, so no two runs are ever quite identical.

The Bridge “Blenavoher” 7yo Pot Still Whiskey

Named for the bridge that carries the road over the Shannon at Lanesborough, Blenavoher is a seven year old single pot still matured in first-fill bourbon and finished in oloroso. The pot still spice arrives first — clove, green apple, a dusting of pepper — before the sherry casks fold in dried fruit and a long, gently oily finish. It is the release that proves what a distillery this small can do when it takes its time.

The founders’ series

The founders’ series collects the gins that started it all: Pinkie, named after the family dog, alongside the small experimental batches that followed. Each expression leans on botanicals gathered close to home — meadowsweet, elderflower, bog myrtle — layered over a classic juniper base. They are gins with a sense of place rather than a novelty hook, and they mix as comfortably as they sip.

Sling Shot Gin

Sling Shot is the distillery’s flagship contemporary gin, a citrus-forward pour built around fresh orange peel, coriander and a firm juniper spine. It was designed for a long serve: plenty of ice, a neutral tonic and a wide slice of orange is all it needs. Behind the bar it has become the house pour for venues that want an Irish gin with real provenance rather than a label story.

“Lough Ree is the distillery our regulars ask for by name. Blenavoher in particular sells itself — one pour across the bar and the next three orders follow.”

Why Lough Ree?

Family-Owned Innovation

Three generations of the Clancy family run the distillery hands-on, which is why experimental releases reach the still instead of stalling in committee.

Ireland’s Smallest GI-Verified Distillery

Verified under the Irish Whiskey Geographical Indication despite its size, so every bottle carries the same provenance guarantee as the largest houses.

Pioneering Peat Distillation

One of very few Irish distilleries working seriously with peat, producing pot still spirit with a smoke character rarely found outside Scotland.

Award-Winning Portfolio

Gold, silver and bronze medals across whiskey and gin categories, earned in blind judging against far larger international producers.

Lough Ree FAQs

What are the benefits of opening a trade account with Lucky Liquor?

A trade account unlocks tiered wholesale pricing, priority allocation on limited Lough Ree releases, a named account manager, and access to point-of-sale materials and staff training for your team.

How small are Lough Ree’s production runs?

Genuinely small. Most whiskey releases run to a few thousand bottles and some pot still finishes are counted in hundreds, which is why trade allocation is confirmed at the time of order rather than assumed.

What are the shipping options for wholesale orders?

We ship across Asia with bonded and duty-paid options, consolidated pallet freight for larger orders, and real-time tracking on every consignment. Lead times are confirmed when your order is placed.

Does Lough Ree produce both whiskey and gin?

Yes. The portfolio spans blended and single pot still whiskey alongside a family of gins, all distilled, matured and bottled at the Lanesborough site on the River Shannon.

Can I track my Lucky Liquor wholesale order online?

Yes. Every order placed through your trade account shows live status in your dashboard, with carrier tracking added as soon as the consignment leaves our warehouse.

What payment methods does Lucky Liquor accept for wholesale purchases?

We accept bank transfer, major credit cards, and approved credit terms for established trade accounts. The options available to you are shown at checkout.
